In addition, here are the answers to some Frequently Asked Questions:

What is Independent Living?

Independent Living is a housing option that provides private apartments within a supportive, active community. Property maintenance and lawn care are provided, eliminating the burden of those responsibilities. Dining and other services and amenities are offered, usually within walking distance.

What is Assisted Living?

While most seniors would prefer to “age in place” at home or with family, it is not always the safest housing choice. When a person is unable to perform daily tasks such as dressing, bathing, cooking or keeping their medication schedule, assisted living services provide support with those activities in order to help seniors live as independently as possible in a home-like atmosphere—usually a private apartment or suite. Assisted Living also provides social interaction throughout the day as well as opportunities to participate in individual or group classes, activities and events.

Is Assisted Living just another name for Nursing Home?

No. A typical assisted living resident may need help with medication, meal preparation, personal care or housekeeping, but they are not chronically ill. As the names imply, Assisted Living is just that—assistance with daily living—while a nursing home provides around-the-clock skilled nursing care for those who need it.

Is The Residence at North Ridge a licensed provider of independent and assisted living housing and services?

Yes. We are licensed and regulated by the State of Minnesota as a Housing with Services establishment, ensuring appropriate staff levels and training, physician-certified care plans, and well-managed medication administration.

Is there a nurse on duty?

Yes. At The Residence at North Ridge, a registered nurse is available 24 hours every day to provide diabetic monitoring, insulin injections, wound care and other nursing support as needed.

What accommodations are available?

At The Residence at North Ridge, we offer spacious studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments. Our assisted living residents may also choose from single-, large- and deluxe-suite units. For more information or to view floor plans, visit the What We Do section of this website.

Can I live in assisted living if I need a wheelchair or walker to get around?

Yes. In fact, we encourage seniors who need assistance with ambulation to live with us here at The Residence at North Ridge.

Does this mean you can prevent me from falling?

Unfortunately, no. It is important to note that no assisted living community can completely prevent resident falls. At The Residence at North Ridge, we believe staying active is one of the best ways to prevent falls. From the layout of our facilities to our personalized therapy programs, we strive to help all our residents obtain their maximum level of independence and activity, thereby reducing the incidence of resident falls.

May I bring my own furnishings with me?

Absolutely. This is your home and you should be made to feel comfortable and secure with the furnishings to which you are accustomed.

What are the visiting hours at The Residence at North Ridge?

At The Residence at North Ridge, you are free to welcome and entertain guests as you please. We do ask that quiet hours be observed between 10 p.m. and 9 a.m. and that children be accompanied by an adult. As a visitor, please consider your loved one’s special needs—for medication, rest, meals, therapy, etc.—when planning your visits.

If my health needs change while I am living at The Residence at North Ridge, will I automatically have to move into a skilled nursing facility?

Not necessarily. Some residents receive outpatient therapy, home health, and even hospice services in their home here at The Residence at North Ridge. Others leave for post-surgical rehabilitation and look forward to coming back home as quickly as possible. However, as an independent or assisted living resident, you will have priority access to our on-campus skilled nursing community, North Ridge Health and Rehab, if your health needs change.
